There is something about natural light that makes it one of the most beautiful sights in the world. Light is capable of more than just aiding our sense of sight; it allows us to feel the heat that emanates from it—just as the sunshine lights up our world and warms our bodies. However, light has a much deeper impact on our being than just the physical. When we see light, whether it is sunshine or fire, it is mesmerizing and uplifts our mood, bringing a sense of relaxation to both the body and the mind. During the winter, when sunshine is often blocked by clouds, fire is the perfect "pick-me-up" to warm us and lighten our spirits.

The beautiful thing about candles is that they are easily accessible; it only takes a roll, click, or strike to bring a little light into our lives. Candles can be combined with essential oils to be very therapeutic, especially during the winter months. Incorporating candles into our dinacharya (daily routines) can be a fun way to shift our mood. It engages two of our senses—sight and smell—to help us reach the state of mind we desire. Candles can be used very intentionally; for example, to help focus the mind during meditation, a sandalwood candle would be a helpful and delightful addition to a routine. The fun part is finding creative ways to bring beauty and light into your space. One of my favorites is ditching the fluorescent lights and, instead, showering by the glow of a beautifully lit candle… what is your favorite way to use candles?
